Townhall Description
By 2030, Latino students are projected to be nearly 30% of the national K-12 student population. Even as the proportion of Latino students in the U.S. grows, a mere 8% of teachers identify as Latino, and only 4% of education board members and 2% of leaders of education organizations are Latino. This lack of representation has negative consequences on the experience Latinos students have in the classroom, and the policies enacted to serve Latino students. It is time to reimagine our education system and reclaim the promise of educational equity. As such, Latinos for Education has convened a panel of nationally recognized, education experts during our feature Town Hall to discuss the following Latino education priorities:
- Improving access to early childhood education
- Addressing the pipeline for diverse teachers and leaders
- Increasing college access and improve college completion
- Ensuring Covid-19 recovery and supports reach and serve the Latino community
